I am Teresa Real Sebastian, a candidate for Monterey Park City Council. I have been a resident of Monterey Park for more than 17 years. Even though I was preoccupied at times with college, law school, marriage and work, I stayed connected to Monterey Park and believed in its future. Throughout my time living here, I have seen many changes in our City. About two years ago, I decided to volunteer to be a commissioner for the Economic Development Advisory Commission. I started to monitor the issues confronting our City and the directives of our City Council. I became concerned. With issues like budget deficits, layoffs, allegations of conflict of interests and lack of transparency, there has never been a more challenging time to serve in local government. Running a local government is getting more sophisticated. As an attorney, businesswoman and Commissioner on Monterey Park's Economic Development Advisory Commission, I am the only candidate with financial, business and legal experience to understand and address our City’s issues. My philosophy: if you have a problem find a solution, do not sweep it under the rug. I will assess each situation with an open mind and in the best interest of our City. I reflect on the many sacrifices my grandparents made when they emigrated from Mexico in 1926, so that I could be born an American citizen. They taught me the value of honesty, hard work, and keeping promises. As a member of your elected City Council, I promise to work hard, listen to you and make a positive difference. As I continue to meet each of you, I realize that we all have the best intentions for our City. It is our home, it is our business, it is our recreation - it is our Monterey Park!
Elect me for better government, real progress and real solutions!
Elect me for Monterey Park City Council!
Thank you.
